Standard trim sizeBrill uses a standard trim size for most books and journals of width 155 x height 235 mm. The hardback and paperback covers, dustjackets and stamps are determined by this size. Note that trim size for specific publications can be different.
Colour

All standard Brill covers should be full color (CMYK), i.e. do not use any SPOT colors or RGB colors.

In some older or “exceptional” cover designs SPOT colors have been used. In these cases two versions of the cover file are required. One version with the original spot colors and one CMYK version. Please use Pantone conversion tables for converting the spot colors to CMYK values.

SpineNo critical spines, i.e. no text or objects aligning exactly with the fold of the spine. Use the ‘type safety’ as is pointed out in this document. Please keep in mind that the covers may be used for both offset print and digital print and consequently the actual width of the spine of the finished may vary with 1 or 2 mm
Barcode The Barcode (EAN code) is placed on the bottom of the back cover and must be 100% black in order to avoid scanning problems in our distribution centers.
JPG front coverIn addition to the PDF file of the entire cover a JPG file of the front cover is also required. The JPG will be used for printed and online marketing purposes. The JPG file of the front cover must 300dpi at 100 % scale and RGB color mode. The filename is the Brill Order number which will be provided by the Production or Associate Editor on the cover request sheet.
