In some instances another typographically distinct Hebrew typeface is needed. For instance, a Dead Sea Scrolls text may be very fragmentary, but a redaction of the same text exists in another document (or a text quite close to the one in question). In the past, the other redaction which supplied the text absent in the document quoted was often typeset using a screened font (for instance SBL Hebrew set 20% black); this is not really a good solution. In such cases, the use of a typeface lighter than SBL Hebrew, set 100% black as usual, is far better. Brill has acquired a user license of MFT Narkiss Classic Light which fits in well with both SBL Hebrew and Guttman Mantova Bold. The font sizes to be used for Narkiss Classic Light are the same as the SBL Hebrew sizes. The MFT Narkiss Classic fonts have the full Biblical Hebrew glyph complement, so they have vowels and accents; but no Dead Sea Scrolls diacritics. Follow the same procedure for DSS diacritics and characters as mentioned above in connection with Guttman Mantova Bold. If you need a copy of Narkiss Light, please contact Pim Rietbroek.
