Instead a unique articleID is used to identify the article. If the article is submitted through Editorial Manager, the EM-ID can be copied. Another ID is also possible, as long as the uniqueness is guaranteed. Subsequent proof versions are numbered with a two-digit number.

In case of a double or multi issue, the first and last issue is used in the issue number, for example "01-02".
