The BITS XML-file in an E-Book package contains multiple DOI's, one for the complete title and one for each part of the title that is available as a separate PDF document. General principles for assigning these DOI's are set out hereafter.

The Book or Title DOI

 The following table gives an overview of the Book or Title DOI for the different imprints.

DOI's for parts

A full-text BITS XML file consists of different parts. Three type of parts can be distinguished:

  1. Parts that are included in the XML file only for the printed version of the book, such as the half-title page, title page or table of contents (the table of contents that is presented at the online platform is generated from the XML-file).
  2. Parts that are presented at brill.com only in full text format, not as a separate PDF. Examples: are the copyright page (page iv), Acknowledgement and Lists of figures and tables. The PDF version of such pages are in general included in a PDF document with all roman-numbered pages: Preliminary Material.
  3. Parts that are available both in XML as well as PDF format. The XML could be full-text or header-only.

General rule is that only parts in category 3 have a separate DOI. These are  subsequently numbered, using a three-digit number, starting with 001 as specified in the following table. 001 is often used for the Preliminary Material.
