Due to our policy to avoid differences between the print and web version of a publication in PDF format, hyperlinks to external sources should always be made by specifying the full URL in the text of each version. Making a specific text in the PDF clickable is allowed, but the URL to which the text links must be mentioned, either between brackets after the clickable text or in a footnote. Since the full URL is thus always present in the PDF-version of the publication, best practice is to make this URL clickable.
Thus:
- Including only hyperlinked text, for example this link to the Brill website, is NOT allowed in PDF versions of the publication.
- Instead, the URL should be mentioned also together with the hyperlinked text, Brill website (https://brill.com)
- Since many applications, such as Confluence, automatically add hyperlinks to text that starts with https, the best way is to make only the URL clickable in the PDF: Brill website (https://brill.com)
