Introduction

Many languages, over 190, are written in the Devanagari script (see also The Devanagari script (for Sanskrit, Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, etc.)). In Brill publications, the language is more often than not Sanskrit (Classical or Vedic).

Fonts and Type Sizes

As of 2015, the font used for typesetting Sanskrit is Chandas.

Chandas font sizes:

  • Brill 11 pt: ~ Chandas 10 pt

  • Brill 10 pt: ~ Chandas 9.1 pt

  • Brill 9 pt: ~ Chandas 8.2 pt

The smaller font sizes may need to be increased slightly in the future (depending on more extensive testing), but the current values will give acceptable results.
