The Bengali, or Bangla, script is an abugida used to for writing the Bengali language as well as other Indian languages, including Sylheti, Assamese and Manipuri (Meitei) languages.

Alongside Latin punctuation two Devanagari glyphs are used for punctuation: DEVANAGARI DANDA (। U+0964) and DEVANAGARI DOUBLE DANDA (॥ U+0965).

Font sizes

For typesetting Bengali, the typeface Tiro Bangla should be used. This font, created by John Hudson and Fiona Ross, is provided under the Open Font License and can therefore be used freely. It can be downloaded from Google Fonts. Please always check Google fonts on GitHub (Tiro Bangla) if there are any updates of the typeface.
